Germany vs Croatia

My first match preview for Euro 2008. I purposely watched the 1st round to get a good view of all the teams and so didnt throw up any previews.

Much has been made of Germany, favourites to win the tournament which is something i struggle to explain. Yes i know they have a good draw but there are a lot of frailties within the German team especially at the back. Poland exposed the back 4 a few times and had they been a little sharper up front the result may have been very different. Lehmann in goal looks very shaky, how can his confidence be high having been dropped for his club side all season?

Mertesacker and Meltzelder did not look like a great centre back pairing to me while Jansen looked a bit shaky too. Only Lahm looked a defender with any real class.

I really rate Srna and i think he will cause Jansen a lot of trouble down the wing. This is where i think my bet may be won.

I accept Croatia did not look great against Austria but i cannot forget the way they played their part in knocking England out of the qualifying group. Their 4-4-2 style works best against another team playing 4-4-2 which is exactly the line up Germany (and England) use. Are they are a team who rise to the big occassion? After all they beat England twice and managed to lose to Macedonia!

Perhaps best of all is the dismissive odds on offer at Coral/Eurobet. I accept the Croats are outsiders going into this game but they have demonstrated in the past they are more than capable of turning over short priced favourites. At the odds available there is only one bet for me, a low staked one on a Croatian victory.
