Euro 2008 - Portugal v Czech Republic

Even though I got burned by this Czech team in the first round, my opinion about them has not changed. Quality wise, they are far from what they used to show in latest competitions as it seems that Rosicky and nedved are two players that can hardly be replaced.

Performance against Switz was really poor scoring from one opportunity, while defensively they could control a team that lacked imagination and their top scorer.

Portugal had a good game against Turkey, outplaying their opponents in the midfield, while being much strong on the defensive end. I guess, this defensive line of Pepe/Ricardo will be a major asset for the Portuguese to go far in this competition.

Technically and tactically Portugal is one class above this average Czech team, there are few doubts in my mind that sooner or later, the seleçao quality will prevail in that game. Moreover, we saw that Portuguese can be very dangerous from set pieces and this has to be an advantage for them.

I believe Portugal will do everything to win, while Czech team will be looking for a draw. One point can’t be enough for Portugal as I’m sure they don’t want to play a crucial game –maybe- against host nation, but prefer to be relaxed for their last game.
