Euro 2008 - Spain v Russia

I don’t know what’s going here. I see many people backing Russia just because Zenith won the UEFA cup and they have Guus Hidding on the bench.

Well in my opinion, Russia is just too much over rated, their qualification campaign was far from being impressive, solid yes, but offensively and on the other road they have faced many problems. Arshavin is out for Russia, and it’s a big blow for sure as in my view he is the heart and soul of the team. It’s very difficult for that kind of team to play without its best player especially when you have to face one of the contenders in the opening.

Spain still looks, as usual, as a main force in Europe coming into this competition. Defensively, the team has improved a lot recently cause coach Arragones seems to have found the right balance in the midfield, and with classy strikers up front such as Torres, Guiza and Villa, you can expect Spain to score some goals.

I’m a bit afraid that Hiddink is planning to set a defensive organization for this game that will cause troubles to Spain without a doubt, but the Spaniards are looking too good in that kind of match up, as they have proved that they can handle with the pressure of an opening game.

Odds for a straight win are kinda low, so I’m gonna take an other option for this game, as I believe Spain to be fully focused defensively.
