Formula 1 Canada (R) - Kimi Raikkonen v Fastest Lap
Lewis Hamilton took a dominant pole yesterday by over half a second. He actually won all 3 sessions of qualifying despite the fact his car does not look totally dialled into the track.
Lewis pushes his car far more than any other driver, using more of the race track and getting closer to the walls than anyone and its very noticable. Little wonder this was the curcuit that saw his debut win in 2007.
There is no value in backing him for the win. The track is being resurfaced, there is always a safety car which makes betting on this particular grand prix highly unpredictable. Therefore i look at fastest lap for my bet for this grand prix.
Team-mate Heikki Kovalainen looks very much off the pace and it would be a big suprise for me if he were to set the fastest lap. The same can be said of Felipe Massa who has been consistently behind Kimi Raikkonnen all weekend.
Kimi was a long way back from Lewis in Q3 which suggests to me he is carrying a few more laps of fuel as he wasnt to far back in the other sessions. Tyres are going to decide the grand prix and the Ferrari seems to use theirs up a lot less than McLaren. My worry is Lewis using up his tyres setting blisteringly fast lap times.
The BMW is fast enough to record a fastest lap, especially in the hands of Robert Kubica and his car has looked very well setup. He is my only real concern. The rest of the field just are not quick to even warrant a mention.
My conclusion is to back the TWO most likely fastest lap drivers, one in a Ferrari and one in a McLaren. Dutching the odds works out at 1.58 that either Kimi or Lewis sets the fastest lap. That seems big enough odds to me as i would price them at around 1.33 for the fastest lap and therefore warrants a decent sized bet.
My stakes and odds will be as follows:
Lewis 4.39 units @ 2.88 (Sporting Odds)
Kimi 3.61 units @ 3.50 (Bet 365)
Both bets return 12.64 units for an 8 unit total stake.
