WTA - Dementieva v Safina
Elena Dementieva has one of the best chances ever to finally win a Grand Slam. Actually she's clearly the best player of her generation who is yet to win a Grand Slam. The Russian player showed in the previous round against Zvonareva that she can use her experience to win close matches and that she can take advantage of the nerves of her opponents, who end up committing errors that Dementieva easily takes advantage of. Dementieva will play her sixth Grand Slam QF of her career and she has won four of these matches. The Russian player is a former finalist in here in 2004 and with her serve improving a lot in the last months, she can now beat any opponent in the circuit, if she plays at the level she has been playing in this tournament. The max double faults she has served in a single match in this tournament was 6 and she is yet this season to serve 10 or more double faults in a single match, something she used to do at least once in almost every tournament she played. That's clear that she has improved her serve and her return game continues to be the best in the circuit.
Dinara Safina has now all the spotlight on her side and that's not good for someone who is yet to pass a Grand Slam QF on her career. Safina is actually hitting more double faults than Dementieva in this tournament (8 and 6 in her last two matches) and Dementieva will clearly give her way more trouble than Sharapova, as Dementieva moves way better and hits a lot more balls back, which raises the probability of Safina ending up committing an unforced error, something she uses to do in long baseline rallies. Safina is now considered as one of the favorites to win Roland Garros and that's too much pressure for someone who has never even reached a single semi final on a Grand Slam in her entire career.
Safina can't deal well in the pressure and she won Berlin and defeated Sharapova, because she was the underdog. Now she is the favorite to win today and she is going to face someone with way more experienced than her and who has also achieve way more than her on Grand Slams. Dementieva is playing well and especially, serving well. Dementieva never goes down without a fight and even though I'm fully convinced Dementieva will win today, I'll take advantage of the extra games the bookies are giving to us. Take Dementieva plus the games in here. Regular Play.
