Ligue 1 - Saint Etienne v Monaco

Mighty greens from St Etienne welcome Monaco for this last game of the season with both teams having different vision of this upcoming match.

The home team lost the advantage for the fifth place in the match @Paris where they only could take a point while Lille was winning. Now, St Etienne needs the win if they want to have a chance for the fifth place but even if they can’t take it, 6th place gives a birth to intertoto cup but Rennes is also up to get it. Coach Roussey said that it has an ambitious team and it will be a major upset if they can’t take the fifth place.

Monaco is relaxed and players can wait for the summer vacation after a nice home win against Auxerre last week end (3-0). Even if the team has many major injuries such as Bernardi, Piquionne, Menez and Gakpé it proved it can be better without them. I still have some doubts about their motivation coming to this game, as Monaco’s away form have not been that brilliant, and it’s difficult to stay focus when you have to play against such a motivated team of St Etienne.

Stadium Geoffroy Guichard will be sold out for this last game of the season and I have few doubts about the winner of this match up. The greens are almost untouchable in this stadium where they concede few goals. I guess that difference in motivation will be big and will be a decisive advantage in favour of the home team. Quality wise, St Etienne is one class above Monaco especially in this end of the season, and I don’t know how Monaco will get something out of this game.
