Coupe de la Ligue
Amiens Paris SG
Note this is French National Cup and not League cup
Second division side Amiens welcome Paris in these second semi finals in what can be called a little derby.
The hosts got a much needed victory against Nantes in their last league fixture which gives to the team some nice air to breathe before the end of the season. Amiens coach said that with this win, they can really focus on the match against Paris.
On the other side, Paris let a victory sleep away in the match of death against Toulouse. Coach Paul Le Guen has decided to field a mixed team for this game, since they got an important game to play at home against St Etienne later in the week. Those youngsters have barely the level of a second league team, they were bad against amateurs of Carquefou in the last round, creating very few chances and we can expect that will struggle against a team of Amiens who will be fully motivated to go through. Former Paris diva Fiorese is now playing for Amiens, and last time he played against Paris (with Lorient) he scored two goals, and I’m really expecting him to step up big, and even score a goal in this game as he always has a revenge taste when playing against Paris.
Amiens will play 100%, and I have to say that they deserve more than what they are doing in the league, Paris players have not much experience to cope with those situations as they are not used to play together, I mean that kind of mixed always lacks complementarity. Amiens will focus on not making mistakes at first, so we can expect a boring game, and wait for the second half to have some action. I believe it will be a tight affair, and a score less draw in 90 minutes is really possible because Paris’s defence is not that bad, and Alonso in the goal is in my opinion better than Landreau. Hard to imagine this game being a high scoring one.
