I did not post any picks lately but hopefully i will do a better job from now on considering the baseball season has began.
In the opener for this season the Boston Red Sox will face the Oakland Athletics in a game that will be played in Tokyo at the Tokyo Dome. This will be the first time since 2004 when the season opener is played in Japan.
Boston will try to start the season in the same way they have finished last season, with a win. They will send to the mound in this game Daisuke Matsuzaka a Tokyo native. It is very likely to guess which team will have to support of the crowd tonight. He does not have a very good career record against the A's, pitching in just one game. He lost that game but he did a good job having a 2.57 ERA for that game. There are some other interesting aspects that make me consider Dice-K as the man for tonight. His first professional game at the Tokyo Dome resulted in a win, as well as his first ever start in the MLB last season. Why wouldn't he start this season with a win on the field he once pitched.
The A's will have Joe Blanton as starter for this game. He has a positive record against the Red Sox with 2 wins and 1 and a 3.58 career ERA against them. But even with a pitcher that has a good record against the BoSox the A's don't look capable of producing the upset here. They have some talented youngsters in the team with Daric Barton and Travis Buck leading the way. But when you consider a pitcher like Joe Blanton your ace you have some roster problems. Also the lack of some very experienced players equals to trouble.
I don't see the A's being able to outplay an even strong Red Sox team than the one from last year and with Dice-K having the edge here because of his career in Japan, i see only one outcome for this game. And that is a bog won for the Boston Red Sox. The A's will struggle in offense while the Res Sox will be able to put up some runs on the scoreboard.
Take the run-line on the Boston Red Sox.
