Today the Washington Nationals host the Florida Marlins in a spring training exhibition match. My pick for this one is on the Nationals to win.
The starting pitcher for the Nationals will be Jason Bergmann . Bergmann is a major reason why I like the Nationals to win this one. In his last game against Seattle he allowed a very low .166 batting average only allowing 4 hits , 9 strikeouts and 1 run throughout the game. He also has good career numbers against Seattle allowing a .260 batting average. Last years Bergman went 6-6 , with a 4.45 ERA , 86 strikeouts and a 1.22 WHIP. The Nationals have some big guns to help out on offense. The Nationals shortstop Cristian Guzmán in spring training is batting a very high .394 has two homers and a team high 10 RBIs . Also batting for the Nationals is Ronny Beliard who so far in spring training is batting a high .440 batting average to go with 2 homeruns. The Nationals have been hitting for a high percentage in spring training so far and have shown excellent numbers against Left handed pitchers which is what they will be facing today against Florida.
The starting pitcher for Florida is LHP Mark Hendrickson . Here is a pitcher who struggled last year . In 2007 Mark Hendrickson went 4-8 with an ERA of 5.21. In his last match up against Washington he clearly struggled allowing a batting average of .500 including 2 runs and 3 hits in one inning of pitching. His career numbers against Washington is 23 hits allowed in 5 games (as a reliever) with a 5.40 era and .315 batting averaged allowed. This will be an away game for Hendrickson where he has struggled . Florida does have some decent offensive players however I believe that they will yet again be shut down by the pitching of Jason Bergmann .
