Euroleague - Lottomatica Roma v Real Madrid
Roma made the huge surprise last week forcing Panathinaikos in his first defeat this season after 17 consecutive wins in Europe and Greek League. We have to say that the Italian team was extremely unlucky as she started this competition having 5 of the 7 games away from home.In the first round won only Bamberg easily and after that success against the defending champions hopes to earn some more points in this second round and qualify at the next phase.Real from her side has faced Barcelona and Panathinaikos away from home and now a winning streak until the end of the first phase seems very close.Panathinaikos, her main opponent, has to give two very difficult games against Barca and Real away from home so the first place is still open for the main competitors.
I will back Real here as i rate Lottomatica at least one level worst or not such good than the Spanish team.Real has a great depth especially in the big guys as Papadopoulos,Reyes,Sekulic and Hervelle create a very powerful frontline. On the other hand Roma beyond the veteran Futska and dynamic Lorbek has not another valuable player to replace these two if they face a foul problem or if they get tired.Perimeter players like Ukic,Hawkins,Ray,Stefansson and Giachetti could cause problems but they are not better from the opponent guards for sure.
I think that at the end of the starting groups Roma will take over at least the 6th place but it is very difficult to see the Italians succeeding a second consecutive great win against a far better opponent.Real’s players know that the Final Four will take place this year in Madrid and they would not like to risk their participation there by losing the first place of the group. The bookies i think are affected by Lottomatica’s form and consider this game a derby but in any other case i believe Real would be the absolute favourite at least by 6 points.
