Premiership - Manchester City v Man. United
Two games without a win in defense of their title, the talismanic Ronaldo suspended following a moment of madness in their last game, Rooney out injured for a couple of months, its time for Manchester United to show up in the premiership this season.
United know that they can ill afford to drop another 3 points and as if thats not enough to fire them up, they visit local rivals Man City for the first derby of the season too.
United have been dealt an early season double whammy with the injury to Rooney coupled with Ronaldos suspension and questions have been raised with Saha and Solksjaer unavailable meaning Uniteds strike force is looking incredibly thin.
Step forward Carlos Tevez. The man excelled when west Ham needed him most last season and United need him now. Ryan Giggs is likely to line up alongside him and in my opinion Giggs/Tevez is a better strikeforce than Rooney/Tevez but thats a conundrum for another day.
What of Man City? A new manager, a heap of new foreign signings the manager had only seen on video tape, throw them all on the pitch and what happens? Two wins, 2 clean sheets, 6 points and joint top of the table!
Lets not get too carried away tho. Wins of Derby County and West Ham are nothing like as tough as Man Utd. In both games City showed frailities a more ruthless club would have exploited and in United that defense is really going to be put to the sword.
Elano is not going to be given the freedom of the COM stadium now that he is a known quantity and Petrovs shoot on sight policy must be known to everyone. I dont see Bianchi getting a lot of change from Vidic and Ferdinand either so its just a question for me of wether United can score.
Normally i would swerve derby matches like the plague but in this case i am amking an exception and also breaking another of my golden rules and backing the away side at odds on. Only just odds on mind you at 1.98 and with a handicap of -0.5 (not the asian handicap) which is really just the same as backing them to win altho these odds are slightly bigger than the money line.
