Giro d'Italia - Michael Rasmussen v Iban Mayo

Pick: Michael Rasmussen
So, finally we know what's the intention of Rasmussen for this Giro - to get ready for TdF. As his team-mate Léon van Bon says: "Rasmussen is the only one who is saving himself a little bit for the mountains. There, he needs to test himself for the Tour de France. The rest really gives it all though."
That explains his poor results in the recent stages. I suppose he will try to keep up with the big guns in front of the race and maybe, if he feels well, to attack.
On the other hand, Iban Mayo's main tasks for Giro are finding a form and helping Simoni to the GC win. According to his own words regarding the today's stage: "It`s too early for me, I need more time to get used to the tempo after such a long break. I will for sure not be seen among the front-runners on that stage."
I simply expect Mayo will be one of the guys making tempo in the first part of the hill. Peipoli is Simoni's mountain leader and Ricco... well, he might form a part of the strong trio with Simoni and Piepoli, helpinh his team leader to reach the best position, or might be sent away in an attack. Anyway, Iban should be one of the first riders to drop off the leading group.
I suppose Rasmussen is at least as strong as Mayo, in their actual form, so he should be able to stay with the group a bit longer, maybe until the end. And if he dropped off to early, he still would have 50/50 chance to beat Mayo.
Or maybe he's going to surprise us all and try a breakaway. He is far behind the leaders, so nobody would care.
